In this phylum the animals live in marine waters worldwide. There are 150n species that are validated and at least another 25 that have not been fully described and named. The most distinct feature that these organisms posses is the "combs," which are used used for swimming and made up of cilia. They are the largest animal that use cilia to swim. This is why they are also referred to as "comb jellies." Their size vary from a few millimeters to 1.5 meters. ctenophores share many characteristics with cnidarians. Their body consists of jelly with one layer of cells on the outside and another lining the internal cavity. However, ctenophores' linings are two cells thick while most other cnidarians' are only one cell thick. They are also predators and hunt a wide range of sizes. They can easily eat ten times their own weight in the best conditions.
